About the position

The Electric Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, design, and operation of electrical engineering projects within the City of New Bern. This role involves significant management and supervision of engineering staff, including the Staff Engineer, Electrical Engineer Technicians, and GIS Technicians. The manager will develop long-range plans, estimate project costs, prepare specifications, and ensure compliance with engineering standards through inspections and research.

Responsibilities

• Develop long range plans for the department.
• Estimate project costs and prepare lists of construction materials for purchasing.
• Manage and supervise the Staff Engineer, Electrical Engineer Technician, and GIS Technician.
• Mentor staff and facilitate succession planning within the division.
• Develop training programs for the department.
• Conduct surveys and studies based on economic engineering practices for proposed construction projects.
• Coordinate with other utility and City engineering personnel to avoid conflicts in construction projects.
• Draft specifications for equipment and materials used in construction, maintenance, and operation of the electrical system.
• Perform on-site inspections of work to ensure compliance with plans.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Considerable experience in electrical engineering.
• Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
