About the position

The Electric Engineering Solar Technician position at the City of Ocala involves working within the Electric Engineering Division to manage net metering requests for solar systems, ensuring compliance with standards and fostering relationships with stakeholders. This role is crucial in advancing the city's commitment to renewable energy through technical expertise and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage net metering requests for customer-owned photovoltaic systems.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with customers, contractors, and equipment providers.
  • Analyze system application documents for compliance and accuracy.
  • Conduct electrical calculations and apply design standards for system sizing approval.
  • Log and respond to incoming documents, providing updates to applicants.
  • Track and archive communications related to net metering applications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation on applications through a shared access system.
  • Conduct site inspections for net metering applications to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare detailed documentation for Tier-3 net metering applications and oversee invoicing.
  • Utilize GIS, AutoCAD, and work order systems for solar work orders and net meter installation requests.
  • Perform post-operation compliance inspections and random audits of solar systems.
  • Assist the OEU Engineering Technician team with various tasks as needed.
  • Be available during after-hour emergencies for operational response.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong technical foundation in engineering, physics, mathematics, or fundamental electricity.
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in the electric or utility field.
  • Experience as an electric technician, electrician, or similar position preferred.
  • Must possess a Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD drafting.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading.
