About the position

The Electric Motor Technician role involves troubleshooting and repairing various electrical and mechanical rotating equipment. The technician will utilize their skills and mechanical aptitude to ensure equipment operates efficiently and safely, adhering to safety protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair various electrical mechanical rotating equipment.
  • Understand and follow all safety processes and procedures including the use of required PPE.
  • Read job cards to determine job status, work authorization, and description of problems.
  • Test electro-mechanical rotating equipment using various testing methods (AC/DC).
  • Disassemble equipment noting parts identification, configuration, and condition.
  • Operate grinders, drills, cranes, forklift trucks, torches, and cut-off saws.
  • Clean equipment assemblies using parts washers, steam cleaners, and sand blasters.
  • Measure for and note proper replacement parts and submit requisitions.
  • Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical or electrical parts and assemblies.
  • Test repaired apparatus for proper output and operation as per specifications.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and timely.
  • Operate specialized repair and testing equipment such as multi-meters and surge testers.
  • Balance various types of rotating equipment using balancing machines.
  • Keep work area safe, clean, and organized.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Trade school, vocational/technical school, military, or on-the-job technician training and/or certifications is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • 1 year of experience with electric motors is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with specific brands such as ABB, Baldor/Reliance, and Siemens.
  • Familiarity with specialized repair and testing equipment.
