About the position
The Electric Power Generation (EPG) Technician position is a critical role within our organization, responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and service of diesel-powered standby electrical generation equipment. This position is designed for skilled field service technicians who will work largely independently, utilizing a company-provided field service truck to travel to various customer locations. These locations may include industrial, commercial, hospital, and residential sites throughout the Middle and West Tennessee and Northern Mississippi regions. The EPG Technician will report directly to the Commercial Services Manager and is expected to deliver exceptional customer service while ensuring the highest standards of safety and professionalism. In this role, the EPG Technician will be required to read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals, and company policies. A strong understanding of electric and electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic is essential, as is proficiency in AC/DC circuit theory. The technician will provide advanced troubleshooting and high-quality repair services on power generation systems, switchgear, and uninterrupted power source (UPS) systems. The technician will be the primary customer support contact, responsible for identifying, diagnosing, and repairing electrical generator systems and related engine mechanical systems, ensuring maximum value for the work performed. Safety is a top priority, and the EPG Technician must adhere to all company and customer safety rules, maintaining a clean and orderly work area. The technician must also possess the physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the job. Customer satisfaction is paramount, and the technician is expected to respond to all customer requests in a professional and timely manner, maintaining a clean and professional appearance at all times. The technician will also support the organization's mission and values by demonstrating honesty, integrity, and respect while delivering high-quality solutions and maintaining a positive attitude in a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Installation, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and service of diesel-powered standby electrical generation equipment.
- Read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals, and company policies.
- Work with electric and electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and high-quality repair service on power generation systems, switchgear, and UPS systems.
- Respond to customer needs in a positive, safe, and timely manner, ensuring maximum value for work performed.
- Communicate effectively with customers to provide an exceptional customer experience.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area, fully participating in safety improvement activities.
- Maintain professionalism and a clean personal appearance at all times.
- Attend and participate in all meetings, trainings, and activities as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two or more years of previous hands-on electrical diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting experience working on 8.5kW - 2,500kW diesel-powered generators.
- Power Generation Technology training or Power Production and Maintenance training through accredited technical schools or military experience preferred.
- Must possess a current, valid state driver's license with a current DOT medical card as required for towing.
- Must possess a basic set of industrial tools, including industrial hand tools, air tools, torque wrenches, and multimeters.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong customer service focus.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and on-call hours as required.
