About the position

M&S Engineering, LLC is seeking an Electric Underground/Overhead Distribution Designer who is organized, energetic, and self-motivated. This role involves producing electric distribution field designs, estimating projects, and preparing construction prints using electronic design software. The designer will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with construction standards and specifications, and will be responsible for managing projects from inception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cost estimates, plan material needs, and follow up on project progress from inception to completion.
  • Interface regularly with contractors, engineers, developers, customers, and consultants.
  • Coordinate closely with key stakeholders to discuss processes and procedures for supplying electric power.
  • Research, acquire, record, and verify easement information.
  • Implement and manage solutions from conceptualization through planning and construction to project completion and financial reconciliation.
  • Evaluate environmental constraints and identify project requirements, including permits and easements.
  • Research new material specifications and resolve basic material issues.
  • Perform complex power system calculations such as voltage drop and equipment sizing.
  • Interpret survey data, plans, deeds, and engineered construction drawings.
  • Develop master system plans for future growth in large developments.
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Edit within Global Information System (GIS) to ensure accuracy and connectivity.
  • Prepare easements and exhibits, including property descriptions and survey measurements.
  • Coordinate pre-development and pre-construction meetings with all involved departments and personnel.
  • Act as the first contact between line construction crews and landowners regarding existing lines and easements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and warning labels.
  • Make presentations to councils and neighborhood groups regarding overall plans and costs.
  • Prepare large scale distribution designs with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct construction pre and post inspections.
  • Interpret, adhere to, and enforce the company safety policy, and the National Electric Safety Code and National Electric Code.
  • Maintain the security of confidential information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of directly related experience.
  • Valid Driver's License and insurable to drive company vehicles.
  • Knowledge of using computer systems and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work outside in all seasons for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel overnight to various parts of Texas and surrounding states.
  • Knowledge of principles for providing customer service.
  • Knowledge of specification book, current Joint Use Agreements, Rates, and Language, construction materials, warehousing methods, National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code specifications, EPA, and OSHA codes.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of property rights, easement acquisition, and construction practices.
  • Skilled in time management, prioritizing, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to draw and edit GIS mapping.
  • Ability to communicate, listen, and understand effectively verbally and in writing.
