About the position

The City of Redding Electric Utility is seeking a full-time Electric Utility Senior Project Engineer to manage and oversee electric utility projects, including the design and construction of substations, transmission and distribution lines, and power generation facilities. The ideal candidate will have a civil engineering background and project management experience, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards while delivering reliable and cost-effective services to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Design and prepare plans and specifications for Electric Utility capital improvement projects.
  • Manage Electric Utility construction projects, including field inspections to ensure contract compliance and safety.
  • Administer consulting contracts and evaluate proposals for consulting services.
  • Prepare detailed specifications for purchasing construction materials and major equipment.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for Electric Utility projects.
  • Implement and maintain operation, maintenance, and testing procedures for Electric Utility facilities.
  • Coordinate repairs or improvements to Electric Utility engineering or structural features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of relevant design experience with electrical utility emphasis and prior experience as a Project Manager.
  • Current professional registration in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering in California or another state with reciprocity.
  • Ten years of experience working on electric utility projects is desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Valid license as a Land Surveyor in the State of California is desirable.
