Concentric Integration, a subsidiary of Baxter & Woodman, Inc., is seeking an Electrical and Automation Design Engineering Intern to join our team in Crystal Lake, IL. In this role, the Electrical and Automation Design Engineering Intern will be primarily responsible for the design of electrical power distribution and technology improvements for water and wastewater systems. The intern will work in two main capacities: Consulting Engineering and Integration Design. In the Consulting Engineering capacity, the intern will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create design documents aimed at process improvements at water and wastewater facilities. These design documents will include electrical site and building plans, single-line diagrams, lighting plans, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), specifications, detailed control panel schematics, and other related documents. In the Integration Design capacity, the intern will support integration efforts for process improvements at water and wastewater facilities. This will involve working closely with integrators and project managers to design control panels and instrumentation for fabrication and installation as part of construction or turn-key projects. The intern will report to the Lead Design Engineer for work responsibilities, scheduling, and quality control, and will have the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive environment. Day-to-day responsibilities will include designing electrical distribution systems, preparing project specifications, creating detailed control panel wiring schematics, and designing automation and control systems for water/wastewater processes. The intern will also have the chance to visit client sites to investigate existing field conditions as needed for preparing design documents.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical distribution systems, including one-line diagrams, plan drawings, panel schedules, and equipment elevations.
  • Prepare project specifications pertaining to electrical, instrumentation, and process controls.
  • Prepare Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Prepare detailed control panel wiring schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, and communication diagrams.
  • Prepare instrumentation and control system submittal packages.
  • Design automation, controls, and related SCADA systems for water/wastewater processes, including communications, PLC architecture, instrumentation, and related software and hardware.
  • Work with the Lead Design Engineer to periodically review and update design standards to maintain compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and good engineering practices.
  • Occasionally visit client sites to investigate existing field conditions as required for preparing design documents.

Requirements

  • Pursuing the completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Advanced computer skills, literacy, and proficiency.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Effective oral, written, and digital communication skills.
  • Ability to easily interact with other design staff.
  • Effective organizational skills for productive tasks and time management.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems promptly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoDesk REVIT, AutoCAD Electrical, and Microsoft Visio, or willingness to be quickly trained.
