About the position

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical & Instrument Designer to support large industrial projects in the Houston, Texas office. The role involves collaborating with Designers and Engineers, conducting site visits, and developing multi-disciplined proposals. The successful candidate will thrive in a team environment, demonstrate self-motivation, and ensure design accuracy across various projects. This position offers a hybrid work model but requires local residency in the Greater Houston area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed engineering schedules and man-hour budgets for projects.
  • Perform and/or participate in site visits and field walks.
  • Coordinate and develop drawings and associated documents for projects.
  • Develop and compile engineering design packages.
  • Work in a team environment supporting multiple projects at one time.
  • Assist Engineers and direct less experienced Designers in the design, drafting, and development of installation drawings.
  • Review vendor shop/fabrication drawings/documents.
  • Ensure that Client, Industry, and Orbital guidelines, standards, and practices are being followed.
  • Perform quality control checks of design packages.
  • Manage and schedule a design and drafting team.
  • Develop estimates and proposals for new multi-disciplined work.

Requirements

  • Ten plus years' electrical and instrument design and technician experience with clients in pipeline, chemical, refining, terminal, and/or power industries.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Design and drafting experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation products.
  • Thorough understanding of and aptitude for current computer software, including CAD systems, and general Office Products.
  • Working knowledge of the NEC and industry standards.
  • Ability to acquire TWIC, OSHA Basic, and other Orbital and client required training.
