About the position

As an Electrical Automation & Controls Engineer at Gerber Products Company, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and managing projects related to electrical and process control systems. Your responsibilities will align with Nestlé's corporate strategies and standards, focusing on areas such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), automation, and IT. You will work independently to perform installation, monitoring, maintenance, repair, and design modifications of high-tech distributed manufacturing and industrial process control systems specifically for the Fremont Plant. This position requires you to optimize system designs and maintenance processes while ensuring safety and compliance with operational standards. You will also be involved in building the capability of skilled trades and participating in both short- and long-range planning concerning instrumentation, automation, controls, and equipment. In this role, you will support the training of peers and become a subject matter expert for the Fremont Site. You will manage and participate in the development of project scopes, designs, and functional specifications, overseeing the execution of projects from concept development to system start-ups and commissioning. Your maintenance responsibilities will include developing and optimizing the Planned Maintenance (PM) plan, supervising maintenance activities, and ensuring that adequate spare parts are available for control and instrumentation systems. You will also maintain updated documentation and drawings related to the electrical systems and process control. As a technical resource for production areas, you will lead skilled tradesmen in troubleshooting production equipment and improving line performance and reliability. You will provide technical coaching and training to electrical/control technicians and instrument technicians, creating detailed training documents and facilitating both classroom and hands-on training sessions. Additionally, you will be expected to support Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) and Total Performance Management (TPM) initiatives, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental objectives and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Attend system training to become a Fremont Site subject matter expert, supporting First Food and Third Food production lines and training peers.
  • Manage and participate in the development of project scopes, designs, and functional specifications.
  • Oversee the execution of projects including concept development, credit submission, bidding process, contractor management, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
  • Develop and optimize the Planned Maintenance (PM) plan and supervise the execution of Planned Maintenance activities.
  • Specify, organize, and maintain adequate spare parts for control and instrumentation systems.
  • Maintain updated documentation and drawings of the Network Infrastructure, Electrical System & Process Control, and instrument calibration.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, repair, and maintenance of site-wide instrumentation, automation control, MES, and electrical systems.
  • Serve as a technical resource for production areas, leading skilled tradesmen and participating in maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot production equipment and improve line performance and reliability.
  • Provide technical coaching, development, and training to electrical/control technicians and instrument technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of electrical and automation engineering experience required.
  • Knowledgeable in electricity, instrumentation, and MES (Manufacturing Execution System).
  • Specialized in process control (PLC, HMI/SCADA, Network, IT, etc.).
  • Extensive experience in AB Control Logix, Wonderware Archestra in Touch or System Platform, Siemens control system, and electrical and electronic circuits (480V and below).
  • Experience in industrial robot technology, servo, and motion controls.

Nice-to-haves

  • Factory Automation & Industrial Electrical systems experience in the pharmaceutical or food industry.
  • SAP knowledge desirable.
  • Process qualification and validation in the pharmaceutical or food industry IQ, OQ, PQ.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Computer programming skills in languages such as C#, Python, and Java.
