About the position

The Electrical Automation Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining, repairing, installing, and upgrading automated equipment and systems within a pharmaceutical and biomedical environment. This position is essential for ensuring that all automated systems operate efficiently and safely, contributing to the overall mission of improving healthcare outcomes. The technician will be responsible for responding to equipment trouble calls, determining corrective actions, and communicating effectively with various departments including manufacturing, engineering, quality assurance, and maintenance. This role requires a proactive approach to both scheduled and unplanned maintenance tasks, ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally and in compliance with relevant laws and safety standards. In addition to troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of electrical and electro-mechanical systems, the technician will support the implementation of upgrades and new engineering projects. This includes disassembling and repairing electronic and instrumentation equipment, performing equipment changeovers, and conducting inspections and preventive maintenance of process control instrumentation. The technician will also be involved in ensuring that the work environment is safe and compliant with all governing policies, which is critical in a regulated industry such as pharmaceuticals. The position requires a hands-on approach and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team on various projects. The technician must be able to lift and move equipment, stand for extended periods, and possess the manual dexterity necessary to perform all job functions effectively. This role is vital for maintaining the high standards of quality and safety that Grifols is known for in the healthcare sector.

Responsibilities

  • Determine corrective actions when responding to equipment trouble calls
  • Communicate to relevant manufacturing, engineering, quality assurance, and maintenance department regarding the status of equipment-systems and time frame required to complete maintenance tasks
  • Perform both scheduled and unplanned work on a wide variety of electrical, electro-mechanical, controller and PLC based equipment and systems
  • Support implementation of upgrades and new engineering/maintenance projects
  • Take necessary steps to correct or report equipment malfunctions or unsafe operational practices
  • Disassemble and repair electronic/instrumentation equipment
  • Ensure equipment and/or environment is safe and consistent with relevant laws, codes and/or governing policies
  • Perform equipment changeovers and sanitation activities
  • Work on short- and long-term projects individually or as a team member as directed
  • Perform inspections and preventive maintenance of process control instrumentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required, Associates degree in a relevant technical field preferred
  • 2 years of related hands-on experience in maintenance of manufacturing/production equipment preferably in a pharmaceutical, GMP, or FDA regulated environment
  • Basic knowledge and maintenance experience in robotics, PLCs, PLC networks, drives, motor controls, sensors, automation components, control instrumentation, proportional valves, servo controls, SCADA, HMI, etc.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting based on electrical drawings and PLC program documentation
  • Able to interpret basic electrical codes in order to help meet compliance/legal/safety requirements
  • Basic knowledge and experience in the use of hand tools, personal safety equipment and electronic measurement tools including AVO meter, Meggar, circuit tracer, signal generator, etc.
  • Able to handle basic power tools and shop equipment
  • Positive attitude to work in fast paced, team-oriented environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
