About the position

The CAD Designer will join a leading entertainment client's ride engineering team, focusing on the design and development of control systems for electromechanical systems. This role requires advanced CAD skills and knowledge of electrical components, ensuring compliance with industry standards while collaborating closely with engineers to resolve design issues. The position is hybrid, requiring onsite work in Glendale, CA, four days a week after an initial adjustment period.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in scope to conceive, design, and deliver a variety of complex and innovative ride systems and related equipment.
  • Interpret electrical control system design requirements and create original layouts, assembly and detail drawings, schematics, and illustrations.
  • Review, analyze, and integrate technical requirements and design approaches with team engineers.
  • Craft electro-mechanical packaging of industrial control panels and enclosures based on high-level concepts from engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with UL508a and NEC requirements, and dimension and tolerance practices per ANSI Y14.
  • Present and review designs with controls and mechanical engineers and attend necessary meetings.
  • Deliver production assembly drawings, detail drawings, bills of material, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment lists.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with design of control systems for electromechanical systems.
  • Advanced CAD skills using AutoCAD in 2D.
  • Knowledge of industrial control panel design and components (PLCs, VFDs, control switches/buttons, enclosures, relays, power supplies, connectors, terminal blocks).
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical design standards and codes such as UL508a, NEC, and ANSI Y14.5.
  • Proficient in developing electrical equipment assemblies, schematics, one-line diagrams, and equipment schedules.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced CAD skills using Solidworks, Revit, and Navisworks.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes including printed circuit board design and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with industrial operational technology networking equipment and structured cabling design.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell and/or Beckhoff automation systems components.
  • Knowledge of single and multi-layer Printed Circuit Boards, their related schematics, assemblies, and fabrication.
  • Ability to design multi-layer PCB assemblies based on engineering schematics.
