About the position

The Electrical Compliance Engineer at Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO) will be responsible for performing engineering calculations and analyses, providing technical support, and ensuring compliance with electrical design standards and regulations. This role involves interfacing with various departments, maintaining system documentation, and conducting inspections to ensure adherence to codes and safety standards. The position is critical in supporting the operations of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), the nation's only repository for Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis within the scope of electrical engineering discipline.
  • Provide rigorous written documentation supporting design decisions.
  • Interface with various departments including Quality Assurance, Procurement, Project Management, and Operations.
  • Provide technical field leadership support to solve equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain system configuration documentation including system drawings and design specifications.
  • Perform routine inspections for adherence to applicable building/construction codes and regulations.
  • Conduct electrical modification/evaluation of existing systems.
  • Perform system health walk downs and prepare system health reports.
  • Obtain and maintain qualifications on annual training covering engineering processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or equivalent professional experience with a minimum of five years of full-time experience in electrical design, technical plan reviews, or electrical inspection code regulations.
  • Associates degree with a minimum of nine years of relevant work experience, or a High School Diploma with thirteen years of relevant work experience.
  • Expertise in NFPA 70 & NFPA 70E (National Electric Code and Electrical Safety Standards).
  • Ability to achieve and maintain an International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI)/ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector E2 certification within twelve months of hire.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards, safety codes, design standards, and environmental regulations in electrical engineering.
  • Experience in electrical systems design, plan review, and field evaluation for compliance with codes and standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Low Voltage and Lighting in an industrial process.
  • One year of nuclear project experience is preferred.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
