About the position

The Electrical Control Engineer position at Samuel involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities focused on ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of electrical systems within an industrial environment. The role requires compliance with all safety standards and regulations, as well as the independent evaluation and application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. The engineer will utilize lean manufacturing techniques to make minor adaptations and modifications to electrical equipment, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of operations. In this role, the engineer will be expected to draft and submit budget proposals, recommending changes as necessary, while maintaining compliance with all company and governmental regulations. The preparation and modification of electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs are also key responsibilities. Building effective partnerships with plant personnel through the implementation of small capital projects is essential, as is providing technical assistance and training regarding electrical systems and functions. The Electrical Control Engineer will assist and lead maintenance teams in diagnosing equipment problems, recommending methods to prevent reoccurrence, and improving reliability while reducing maintenance costs. Analyzing and diagnosing root causes of problems and failures will be critical, as will identifying potential issues or opportunities related to the cost-effective operation and maintenance of processes. The engineer will also be responsible for maintaining the integrity of engineering drawing files and project archives, updating deficiencies as they arise, and researching, planning, and implementing assigned projects to achieve stated objectives using the best technology at the lowest cost. Continuous development of specialized knowledge on mill equipment is expected to ensure the engineer remains effective in their role.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all safety standards and regulations.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing tasks and promoting open communication with peers.
  • Draft and submit budget proposals, recommending subsequent budget changes when necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with all company and governmental regulations.
  • Prepare and/or modify electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs.
  • Build effective partnerships with plant personnel through the implementation of small capital projects.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to personnel regarding electrical systems and functions.
  • Assist and lead maintenance in diagnosing equipment problems and recommend methods to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Analyze and diagnose root causes of problems and failures, recommending solutions to maximize uptime.
  • Identify potential problems or opportunities related to the operation and maintenance of processes to reduce costs and increase throughput.
  • Maintain the integrity of engineering drawings files and project and equipment archives.
  • Research, plan, and implement assigned projects/tasks to achieve stated purpose using the best technology at the lowest cost.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date specialized knowledge on mill equipment.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or Technology.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in an industrial environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and edit new and existing PLC programs (Siemens, Mitsubishi, and Allen Bradley).

Nice-to-haves

  • Aluminum industry experience and experience with continuous processing line.
  • Lean manufacturing/Six Sigma experience.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Continuous Improvement principles.
