About the position

The Controls Design Engineer III at PowerSecure is responsible for providing electrical and controls design for product improvements and ensuring compliance with engineering documents and standards. This role involves independent and collaborative work, contributing to complex projects, and may include supervising lower-level engineers. The primary focus is on safety, quality, functionality, and conformity of products.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical/controls design on product improvements for manufactured product lines.
  • Coordinate site-wide drawings as applicable per site/project.
  • Ensure equipment/sites/projects are built according to engineering documents and required standards such as UL and NEC.
  • Review and confirm construction drawings, bringing concerns to the EPC and/or Operations team.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other engineering groups, sales, marketing, and operations.
  • Participate in project meetings including handoff, release review, and design meetings with stakeholders.
  • Create and verify the Bill of Materials (BoM).
  • Coordinate with the SCADA team for appropriate communication components.
  • Set up Vault structure and coordinate with Manufacturing Support.
  • Review and verify drawing packages prior to submittal and release.
  • Design electrical circuits for LV, MV, and DC applications ensuring compliance with design standards.
  • Review powered electrical components and drawings, including fire alarm drawings and panel schedules.
  • Develop document sets including schematics, wire/conduit schedules, and other drawing details for safe installation.
  • Identify and execute processes to reduce manufacturing, installation, and operational costs.
  • Ensure schedules and milestone dates are achieved in the ERP system.
  • Prepare engineering drawings from sketches, verbal descriptions, specifications, and technical information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required, electrical preferred.
  • 10+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and control drawings.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills with a desire for continuous improvement.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with 2-D AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent software.
  • Knowledgeable with UL, NEC, and NFPA 79 standards.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications like Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
