About the position

The Electrical Controls Engineer at VulcanForms will focus on the electrical design, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new equipment, integrating it into the production environment. This role will evolve to include continuous process improvement and managing equipment upgrades, contributing to the advancement of industrial-scale metal additive manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical design of electrical panels, servo drives, power supplies, transformers, sensors, cables, e-chains, fuses, relays, breakers, etc.
  • Integrating, testing, commissioning, and supporting automation and electrical control hardware for industrial-scale metal additive manufacturing machines and support equipment.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation related to electrical system design, including schematics, specifications, and test plans.
  • Working closely with suppliers to source components and materials for electrical systems.
  • Leading the release process for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal quality requirements.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to electrical system performance or integration.
  • Collaborating with cross-disciplinary team members to maximize the efficiency of electrical systems.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in electrical system design and development, preferably in industrial machinery and automation.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (e.g., SolidWorks electrical, AutoCAD electrical preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including instrumentation, analog and digital circuit design, high voltage components, and signal processing.
  • Experience with generating precise system level documentation: Work Instructions, Root cause analysis, Engineering Change Orders, etc.
  • Experience with automation platforms such as B&R (preferred), Beckhoff, Siemens, or others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience designing and tuning closed loop systems for control of position, pressure, flow, temperature, etc.
  • Experience designing mechanical components and drawings, familiar with ASME Y14.5 standards for GD&T.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and a strong desire to take work from concept to completion.
  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing methods like Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) or Directed Energy Deposition (DED), or Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS).
