About the position

The Electrical Controls Engineer will work within the Plant Engineering Team at Shultz Steel, focusing on designing and installing new equipment as well as retrofitting existing equipment to enhance manufacturing productivity, safety, and quality. This role involves providing engineering support to the maintenance department for troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues, ensuring efficient operations within the manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed control designs for new equipment and modifications using AutoCAD Electrical, including schematics and panel layouts.
  • Program PLC and HMI devices on Siemens S7, WINCC, and Allen Bradley systems.
  • Project manage assigned projects, including sending out RFQs, selecting hardware and software, and supervising installations.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and provide technical guidance to maintenance activities.
  • Support production and maintenance during overhauls and electrical testing.
  • Develop best practices and operational procedures for the engineering team.
  • Assist in training and development of plant engineering and maintenance teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • More than 5 years of experience in engineering within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming, specifically with Siemens and Allen Bradley systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting control, communication, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as DH+, DeviceNet, and Ethernet.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of natural gas fired furnaces and hydraulic forging presses.
  • Familiarity with Kepware KEP Server EX.
