About the position

The Electrical Design Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS) will be part of a global engineering team responsible for designing and innovating electrical systems for data centers. This role focuses on creating resilient and cost-effective electrical distribution systems, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders. The engineer will take designs from concept to construction documentation, support construction efforts, and drive continuous improvements in electrical engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for data centers and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
  • Create designs that meet or exceed quality and budgetary requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes by working with local agencies.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate electrical systems' installation and performance.
  • Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for reviews and provide engineering evaluations and audits as needed.
  • Offer creative solutions and maintain a fun work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or 10+ years of relevant electrical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.
  • 7+ years of experience developing design documentation including 1-line diagrams for construction and permitting.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, and OSHA.

Nice-to-haves

  • Detailed understanding of uninterruptible power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, and automatic/static transfer switches.
  • Possess leadership and problem-solving skills, and be a motivated, dependable individual with creative thinking abilities.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design.
  • Professional Engineering License.
