About the position

The Electrical Design Engineer for AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, and continuous innovation of electrical distribution systems for data centers. This role involves collaborating with various teams to ensure the highest standards of safety, security, and efficiency while delivering cost-effective solutions. The engineer will take designs from concept to construction, ensuring compliance with regulations and specifications, and will be a subject matter expert in electrical engineering.

Responsibilities

• Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
• Create data center electrical designs and collaborate with other disciplines to produce a construction document set.
• Develop designs that meet or exceed quality and budgetary requirements.
• Specify appropriate electrical equipment in collaboration with regional vendors and manufacturers.
• Define site utility requirements in coordination with local utilities.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes by working with local agencies.
• Review and approve equipment submittals.
• Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
• Collaborate with commissioning teams to test and validate electrical systems' installation and performance.
• Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
• Travel to sites for reviews and provide engineering evaluations, audits, and startup support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or 8+ years of relevant electrical experience.
• Cumulative 3+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.
• 2+ years of experience developing design documentation for construction and/or permitting.

Nice-to-haves

• Professional Engineering License.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
• 1+ years of experience related to data center or mission-critical facility design.
• Experience with fast track design/build projects or significant upgrade projects.
• Experience with large scale technical operations or compute farms.
