About the position

The Electrical Design Engineer - Protection and Automation Panels at Siemens is responsible for designing, developing, and manufacturing power protection and automation panels for substations. This role involves creating electrical, mechanical, and system drawings, developing logic diagrams, and preparing acceptance test procedures. The engineer will collaborate with a team to ensure that electrical systems meet industry standards and customer requirements, while also providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design Electrical, Mechanical and System Drawings of Protection and Automation Panels according to customer specifications.
  • Develop logic diagrams and protection schemes based on technical drawings and customer specifications.
  • Prepare Factory & Site Acceptance Test procedures for protection systems projects.
  • Collaborate with a team to develop electrical systems that meet industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Act as a primary customer interface, providing troubleshooting and commissioning support.
  • Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
  • Support the sales team with the development of project scope of work, sales estimates, and proposals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design in the Power Systems protection and Automation Engineering Field.
  • 2+ years of proficiency with Engineering Base (EB) Software - AUCOTEC and the Global Engineering Library (GEL) database for electrical and Mechanical Panel design.
  • 3+ years of experience working with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Applied knowledge of transmission and distribution numerical relay and protection, capable of designing and specifying them.
  • Knowledge of Siemens, GE, SEL or ABB relay/automation products and associated software.
  • Familiarity with Communication Network Technologies, including design and hardware configuration.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC61850, DNP, Modbus, IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, PROFINET, PROFIBUS.
  • Knowledge of ANSI standards and IEC standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Protection and Automation Systems of Electrical Systems.
  • Knowledge of Global Engineering Library (GEL) and creation of local Database using standard worksheets, EB Table, and Cabinet Routing with Engineering Base Software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Visio tools.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Applied knowledge of Medium and High Voltage Protection schemes.
  • Knowledgeable on communication protocols such as IEC61850, DNP, Profibus, OPC, Modbus, IEC101, IEC104.
  • C Programming Language experience.
  • Project Lead experience.
