About the position

The Substation Automation and Protection Panel Design Engineer at Siemens is responsible for designing, developing, and manufacturing power protection and automation panels for substations. This role involves creating electrical, mechanical, and system drawings, developing logic diagrams, and providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate with a team to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements, while also serving as a primary interface for customers during troubleshooting and commissioning phases.

Responsibilities

  • Design Electrical, Mechanical and System Drawings of Protection and Control Panels according to customer specifications.
  • Develop logic diagrams and protection schemes based on technical drawings and customer specifications.
  • Prepare Factory & Site Acceptance Test procedures for protection systems projects.
  • Collaborate with a team to develop electrical systems that meet industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Act as a technical leader in projects or lead other team members in project activities.
  • Serve as a primary customer interface, including troubleshooting and commissioning support.
  • Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
  • Occasionally support the sales team with project scope development, sales estimates, and proposals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical design in the Power Systems protection and Control Engineering Field.
  • Experience with Engineering Base (EB) Software and the Global Engineering Library (GEL) database for design.
  • Knowledge of Siemens, GE, SEL, ABB relay/automation products and associated software.
  • Applied knowledge of transmission and distribution numerical relay and protection; capable of designing and supervising designs of other engineers.
  • Familiarity with Communication Network Technologies, including design and hardware configuration.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC61850, DNP, Modbus, IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, Profinet, Profibus.
  • Control and Protection commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of ANSI and IEC standards.

  • Knowledge of Protection and Automation Systems of Electrical Systems.
  • Project Lead experience.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Visio tools.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Knowledge of Global Engineering Library (GEL) and creation of local Database, worksheets, EB Table, and Cabinet Routing with Engineering Base Software.
  • Applied knowledge of Medium and High Voltage Protection schemes.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP, Profibus, OPC, Modbus, IEC101, IEC104.
  • Professional Engineer license (PE US).
  • C Programming Language experience.
  • Experience with MicroStation Software.
