About the position

The Electrical Designer III is responsible for performing technical activities on assigned projects under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. This role involves participating in technical studies, investigations, and designs, ensuring projects are completed on-time, within budget, and to high-quality standards. The position includes managing electrical design tasks, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with various disciplines to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and prepares drawings for electrical systems for building projects, including conducting code reviews and calculations under supervision.
  • Writes and edits electrical system specifications for building projects.
  • Attends meetings with owners, clients, and architects as needed, and prepares meeting notes.
  • Conducts site surveys to assess existing and proposed facility conditions.
  • Monitors construction progress through job site visits to ensure compliance with design specifications and codes.
  • Prepares punch lists and project observation reports.
  • Prepares Proposal Requests (PR's) and Supplemental Instructions (SI's) and responds to Requests for Information (RFI's).
  • Reviews project submittal documents for compliance with project drawings and specifications.
  • Assists in coordinating with other disciplines such as architectural, mechanical, and plumbing.
  • Mentors and directs work of BIM/CAD Technicians and Electrical Designers.
  • Performs energy calculations and manages small electrical design projects.
  • Assists project manager in budgeting, cost estimates, project schedules, and contracts.
  • Assists with project billing and establishes electrical design standards.
  • Participates in industry organizations and events.

Requirements

  • 2-year Technical Degree or Associates Degree in Electrical-Related Field, or relevant electrical coursework.
  • 5 - 10 years of experience as an electrical designer for an engineering or architectural/engineering design firm, or equivalent experience with a Master or Journeyman Electrician License, or as an electrician for an Electrical Contractor.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Revit, and AutoCAD.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
  • Experience with larger commercial projects including healthcare and higher education.
  • Knowledge of SKM software for fault current calculations and Arc-flash studies.
