About the position

CDI Engineering Solutions is seeking an Electrical Designer III to join our team in Houston, TX. This position is integral to our multi-disciplinary engineering organization, which provides a full range of integrated engineering design, project support, procurement, and construction management services to the energy and chemicals industries. The Electrical Designer III will work under the direct supervision of a Senior Designer, focusing on developing specific skills and processes related to electrical design in the petrochemical sector. The role requires a commitment to safety and quality, ensuring that all designs adhere to industry standards and practices. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing CADD drawings based on design sketches and verbal instructions, demonstrating a continuous awareness of safety practices in the workplace, and performing related support tasks such as updating computer lists and distributing drawings. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for flexibility while maintaining a strong focus on collaboration and communication within the team. In this role, the Electrical Designer III will also be expected to participate in company-mandated safety and quality training, prepare legible sketches and field notes, and efficiently manage time to meet project deadlines. The designer will act as a discipline lead on singular projects, run model reviews, and keep supervisors informed of progress. The position requires a minimum of five years of technical work experience in the electrical field, particularly within the petrochemical industry, and proficiency in Autocad/Bluebeam and MS Office. The designer must also possess a TWIC card or the ability to obtain one, and previous in-plant experience is essential. The role demands strong leadership qualities, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze issues and apply technical expertise effectively. The designer will be expected to demonstrate organizational savvy, open communication, and teamwork, contributing to a diverse and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and empowered to share their ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare CADD drawings from design sketches and verbal instructions provided by the Engineer and/or the Senior Designer.
  • Demonstrate a continuing awareness and implementation of safety practices in the workplace and in the production of CADD drawings.
  • Perform related support tasks such as updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, etc.
  • Participate in company mandated Safety and Quality training.
  • Prepare legible sketches and field notes that include all pertinent dimensions, notes, and job number.
  • Use time efficiently.
  • Act as a Discipline lead on singular projects.
  • Run a model review.
  • Keep supervisor informed of progress.
  • Support field assignments as required.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of technical work experience in the Electrical field in the petrochemical industry is required.
  • Experience based on knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify with the approval of the Director of Engineering and the Electrical Engineering Manager.
  • TWIC Card and/or ability to obtain.
  • Previous in plant experience is a must.
  • Ability to work a hybrid work schedule.
  • Must be proficient with Autocad/Bluebeam and MS Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in utilizing manual drafting techniques for a variety of non-routine assignments.
  • Ability to learn new software as required.
