About the position

The Electrical Designer IV - Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing all assigned projects, including design and construction projects, engineering studies, analyses, and reports. This role involves complete electrical design management, ensuring client satisfaction, quality of services, and financial performance for assigned projects while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Overall project communication.
  • Effectively communicate all project information with project stakeholders at all levels, including clients, owners, internal and external team members, subcontractors, and Bernhard TME leadership.
  • Negotiate and write fee proposals and contracts; develop and manage project scope; schedule; budget; prepare cost estimates; coordinate disciplines; manage personnel; oversee construction administration; coordinate billing; maintain project profitability; and ensure quality control.
  • Lead project design supporting drafting and design teams and collaborating with design engineers from all disciplines.
  • Manage client satisfaction, quality of professional services, and financial performance for assigned projects.
  • Participate in business development efforts through project development, proposal development, and interview participation.
  • Mentor and direct work of BIM/CAD Technicians, Designers, Engineers, and Administrative Assistants to ensure quality control and professional development.
  • Design and prepare drawings for electrical systems, including conducting code reviews and calculations.
  • Develop and edit electrical system specifications for projects.
  • Attend meetings with owners, clients, and/or architects; prepare and distribute meeting notes.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, utilities, and municipalities to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Conduct site surveys to determine existing facility conditions.
  • Responsible for construction administration and assigned personnel.
  • Conduct project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Prepare Proposal Requests (PR's) and Supplemental Instructions (SI's); respond to Requests for Information (RFI's).
  • Oversee review of project submittal documents.
  • Monitor direct personnel reports' performance and conduct bi-yearly evaluations.
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations for networking and development.

Requirements

  • 2-year Technical Degree or Associates Degree in Electrical-Related Field, or an Electrical Program / Course / Classes at a Community College.
  • 10 - 15 years of experience as an electrical designer for an engineering or architectural/engineering design firm, or as a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor, or 15 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Revit, and AutoCAD.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
  • Experience with healthcare, higher education, and laboratory projects.
  • Extensive experience with larger commercial projects including healthcare, higher education, laboratory, and central energy plant projects.
  • Thorough knowledge and use of SKM software for fault current calculations and Arc-flash studies.
