About The Position

Lumenance is seeking a full-time engineer to develop (3D + 2D CAD) wire harnesses, junction boxes, and related electrical components and sub-systems for our client in the commercial vehicle market. This is a contract-to-direct position with a growing manufacturer. The engineer will design new, high voltage electrical distribution systems (EDS), low voltage wiring harness products and make improvements to existing products. They will evaluate products and processes for cost efficiency and reliability, working with other team members to ensure timely production. The engineer will ensure that products, processes, and documentation conform to specifications and customer requirements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in engineering or a related technical area
• Engineering degree in a relevant discipline
• Experience designing new high voltage wire harness and cable assemblies
• Experience designing smart junction boxes, including routing and wire gauge selection
• Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, understanding of engineering/technical requirements and standards
• Knowledge of automotive (or similar transportation industry) component development and production processes, wire harness assembly processes, wire harness components
• Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems (CATIA) - preferably CATIAV6
• Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
• Proficiency in using MS Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word also recommended

Responsibilities

• Designs electrical distribution system (EDS) products to meet all customer requirements and internal design standards, including high voltage wiring and smart junction boxes.
• Designs high Voltage Cables and Connectors and works directly with their suppliers.
• Designs low voltage wiring harnesses and battery cables.
• Generates a Bill of Material (BOM) and prints for product designs.
• Coordinates with Sales, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to assess product and processing costs and ensure that program cost targets are achieved.
• Coordinates 3D designs to package components and create schematics - has full design responsibility.
• Defines retention, convolute, tapes.
• Provides proposals on cost/weight reduction to enhance productivity.
• Coordinates all program status review meetings, design review meetings, and harness trial builds with customer, manufacturing, and purchasing.
• Attends customer meetings and build events.
• Maintains a program open issues list to track all issues (i.e., design, system, manufacturing, purchasing, and customer) which are related to the program.
• Reviews the open issues list with the customer, manufacturing, and purchasing.
• Coordinates program timing, PPAP, and master sample reviews.
• Supports future business opportunities by working closely with the Sales, Purchasing, and Manufacturing groups.
