About the position

The Electrical System Design Engineer will be part of the Vulcan Development Airborne Avionics team at United Launch Alliance (ULA). This role focuses on designing, developing, and integrating new avionics systems for the Vulcan Centaur V, ensuring that all systems meet the required specifications and performance standards. The position requires collaboration with various teams to interpret project requirements and execute trade studies for electrical system concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting and decomposing program/project level requirements into avionics level requirements and objectives.
  • Understanding and generating avionics system development roadmaps.
  • Establishing conceptual operational sequences.
  • Executing trade studies for new electrical system concepts and architectures.
  • Defining launch vehicle Control, Power, Instrumentation and Communication System requirements.
  • Performing electrical system analyses such as sensor calibration, power loads and capacity, voltage drop, and signal integrity.
  • Understanding electrical engineering concepts like signal filtering and amplification, bandwidth, feedback, and control.
  • Defining hardware/software requirements, integration, design review, and lab test support in the Airborne System Integration Lab.
  • Integrating avionics system components onto the launch vehicle at the factory and launch site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
  • Experience with instrumentation, electrical control, and/or power systems.
  • Proficient at working with integrated hardware and software teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, coordination, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrable communication and public speaking skills (verbal and written; including presentations).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with systems engineering and system integration.
  • Solid understanding of problem definition and issue resolution process steps.
