This position will be based out of our closest CDM Smith office in the Mid-Atlantic or closest CDM Smith office. This position is also open to a hybrid work schedule allowing work from home several days per week or fully remote. With general direction, the Electrical Engineer 5 (Medium Voltage) creates basic to highly complex designs of electric master system plans, power system, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other similar electrical systems. The role involves performing studies of power systems and electrical calculations for electrical systems, lighting simulations, lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, security, and other similar calculations. The engineer will develop white papers and technical documentation to support the firm's technical knowledge management (TKM). This includes performing site reviews and studies as needed to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications and updating design requirements as necessary. The engineer will contribute to the firm's TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. Additionally, they will submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals. Collaboration with sales staff is essential to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposals (RFPs). The engineer will review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local, and federal regulations and best practices. They will meet with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs and attend conferences, symposia, etc., to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff. The role also includes providing technical guidance and training to more junior staff, mentoring them for future growth within the discipline and firm, and may involve supervising the work of junior engineers on project work.
