About the position

The Electrical Engineer 6 - Power Systems Analyst position at CDM Smith is a senior-level role focused on power system analysis and electrical engineering. The individual will be responsible for leading complex electrical and power system analysis tasks, providing technical expertise, and mentoring junior staff. This role involves independent project management, collaboration with various stakeholders, and supporting business development activities related to electrical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret, organize, execute, budget, and coordinate complex electrical and power system analysis assignments.
  • Supervise and guide power system analysis tasks and projects conducted by team members.
  • Serve as the technical expert in power system analysis for CDM Smith's electrical practice.
  • Act independently on technical matters related to electrical design and power system analysis.
  • Work as the electrical lead or project manager on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Support business development activities of a highly technical electrical nature.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to lower-level employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license.
  • 10 years of related experience in electrical engineering and power system analysis.
  • Expert knowledge of industry standard analysis software ETAP and/or SKM.
  • Demonstrated work experience in performing power systems engineering (load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid foundational knowledge of industrial and utility power systems.
  • Published in IEEE Journals or Transactions, or other technical journals.
  • Experience with Power System Harmonics Analysis.
  • Experience with Protective Relay Setting File Creation & Analysis.
  • Proficiency in power system planning.
  • Applied expertise in distributed generation, alternative energy, and microgrid systems.
  • Proficiency with designing, troubleshooting, and problem-solving for medium voltage distribution systems.
