About the position

This position is for a Senior Level Electrical Engineer and Power System Analysis Specialist at CDM Smith, responsible for overseeing complex electrical and power system analysis assignments. The role involves interpreting, organizing, executing, budgeting, and coordinating tasks related to load flow, short circuit, selective coordination, and arc flash studies. As a technical expert, you will provide supervision, guidance, and review of power system analysis tasks conducted by the electrical practice team. You will also serve as a liaison with various stakeholders, acting independently on technical matters related to electrical design and power system analysis. In this capacity, you will be expected to work independently as the electrical lead or project manager on multiple tasks and projects. Your responsibilities will include supporting business development activities of a highly technical nature and mentoring lower-level employees. The position requires a strong foundation in industrial and utility power systems, as well as expertise in troubleshooting and problem-solving for medium voltage distribution systems, including substations and switchgear. You will also be expected to contribute to the design and analysis of distributed generation and microgrid systems, ensuring that all projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate complex electrical and power system analysis assignments.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to team members on power system analysis tasks.
  • Act as a technical expert in electrical design and power system analysis.
  • Serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders on technical matters.
  • Work independently as the electrical lead or project manager on multiple projects.
  • Support business development activities related to electrical engineering.
  • Mentor and provide professional development for lower-level employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in electrical engineering and power systems analysis.
  • Expert knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) software and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid foundational knowledge of industrial and utility power systems.
  • Published in IEEE Journals or Transactions or other technical journals.
  • Experience with Power System Harmonics Analysis.
  • Experience with Protective Relay Setting File Creation & Analysis.
  • Proficiency in power system planning and analysis software (SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, Easypower, EDSA/Paladin, Cyme, Milsoft).
  • Applied expertise in distributed generation, alternative energy, and microgrid systems.
