About the position

The Electrical Engineer 7 position at Black & Veatch is a pivotal role that functions as a technical specialist with potential management and administrative responsibilities. This position may involve supervising a multi-discipline engineering staff on projects of high complexity, and the individual is expected to be a key internal reference point for technical guidance, leveraging their depth and breadth of knowledge. The engineer will be responsible for the execution of assigned projects, influencing the scope of responsibilities within the division. In this role, the engineer will proactively provide guidance and direction in interpreting and applying engineering standards. They may own the responsibility for maintaining, updating, and developing these standards while providing technical guidance to others regarding various projects or disciplines. The engineer will also play a crucial role in establishing processes that promote a culture of quality, supporting continuous improvement, change management, and risk management efforts. The position entails managing the engineering design-related aspects of complex projects or multiple smaller projects, ensuring adherence to engineering schedules and budget performance, and maintaining the quality of engineering solutions and deliverables. The engineer will orchestrate all technical aspects of these projects, making critical project engineering execution decisions within the bounds of applicable policies, standards, guides, and contract commitments. They will lead production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for projects, establishing work plans to be applied to given projects. Additionally, the engineer will actively coordinate with all internal and external team members on complex projects, responsible for coordinating project schedules across multiple disciplines. They will focus on identifying key client interests and drivers, communicating these to project team members, and developing approaches to accommodate client concerns in the performance of work on complex projects. The engineer will also work to identify future client needs and position Black & Veatch for future opportunities. As a senior-level technical specialist, the engineer will develop and apply advanced engineering concepts to unique problems, often recognized as an industry expert. They may participate in professional societies, present papers, and act as a section lead for large or complex specialty areas. The role may also involve providing direction to a small group, overseeing performance management, career planning, and learning and development, while also managing engineering resources and resolving conflicts. Administrative responsibilities may include supervising group operations and budgets, ensuring adherence to corporate and division programs, and approving timesheets and expense reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program.
  • Minimum of 15 years related work experience.
  • Professional registration or licensure in designated home office country, or in active pursuit of such registration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline.
  • Experience in managing engineering resources for small size or less complex groups.
