About the position

The Electrical Engineer - Buildings/MEP position at WSP USA involves designing and analyzing electrical systems for various projects, particularly in the utility and industrial/commercial sectors. The role requires collaboration with a cross-functional team to ensure compliance with engineering standards and regulations while contributing to the development of innovative solutions for electrical infrastructure. The engineer will also be responsible for preparing technical reports, conducting studies, and supporting project management efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, and analyze data relating to substation components and equipment specifications.
  • Assist in reviewing third-party design documents and project plans.
  • Perform professional electrical engineering work related to various electrical diagrams and layouts.
  • Participate in incorporating future-ready techniques and design requirements.
  • Support senior engineers with research and recommendations on design requirements.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering issues.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, and power distribution.
  • Prepare data visualizations and reports for interpretation of findings.
  • Maintain quality control standards for measurements and reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to execute project work and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Assist with the development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys for design and construction problems.
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data from field investigations.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Collaborate with other engineers on projects with electrical infrastructure authorities.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in electrical engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws and codes.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective self-leadership and attention to detail.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing and office automation software.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (CADD, Aspen, CAPE, ETAP).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
