As an Electrical Engineer Co-Op at Bayer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our chemical processes. Your primary responsibilities will include working on yield and process capacity improvements, waste reductions, and modifications or designs of equipment to optimize our operations. You will troubleshoot mechanical equipment and provide recommendations to improve reliability and reduce costs associated with the mechanical equipment in the process area. Additionally, you will be involved in the design, installation, and start-up of automatic process control systems, material handling, and distributive control systems. In this position, you will assist engineers in developing project objectives and scope by analyzing customer requirements. This will involve producing sketches, drawings, written descriptions, or specifications for customer approval. You will ensure compliance with engineering standards, OSHA, EPA standards, and plant safety standards on all projects. Collaborating with other engineers, you will gain insights into maintenance and reliability improvement programs in chemical plants, and perform engineering calculations following standard methods and principles for various projects. You may also assist with the procurement process, including equipment specifications, bid evaluations, and contract administration. Conducting engineering cost, feasibility, and planning studies will be part of your responsibilities, where you will analyze customer needs and data, research, and coordinate with other engineers to provide recommendations. Furthermore, you will collaborate with production and technical staff on day-to-day activities, troubleshooting processes, and problem-solving to drive the attainment of project goals. Supporting the implementation of the Operational Excellence program and Process Improvement/Lean Manufacturing initiatives site-wide will also be part of your role.
