About the position

The Electrical Engineer - Controls position at Northrop Grumman in Elkton, Maryland, involves modernizing industrial control systems and hardware, specifically focusing on PLC-based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems and HMIs. The role requires collaboration with process experts to create automation specifications and develop resources to meet program requirements. This position is available at either Engineer (level 2) or Principal Engineer (level 3) based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate efforts to modernize industrial control systems and hardware.
  • Work with process experts to create automation specifications and develop implementation resources.
  • Support processes involved in manufacturing initiators, igniters, and thrust control systems.
  • Own the manufacturing process with an in-depth understanding of requirements, processes, equipment, tooling, and techniques.
  • Coordinate design and documentation of safe and affordable manufacturing processes with cross-functional teams.
  • Establish monitoring for Key Process Parameters using Statistical Process Control.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement of existing processes and implement verified changes.
  • Conduct non-conformance investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Define requirements for new/repaired facilities equipment used in production.
  • Assist in developing the scope of work and related estimates for proposal activity.
  • Support production personnel on the floor as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, preferably in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of experience or a Master's degree in STEM for Engineer level 2.
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, preferably in Electrical Engineering and 5 years of experience or a Master's degree in STEM and 3 years of experience for Principal Engineer level 3.
  • Experience with designing and programming process automation and industrial controls.
  • Electrical assembly experience preferred.
  • Experience with communications, data networks, and data collection.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work with minimal direction in a changing environment.
  • High energy, results-oriented, self-motivated, and a team player.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship.
