About the position

The Electrical Engineer - Design at Konecranes will be responsible for designing electric motor controls specifically related to overhead cranes and hoists. This role involves conducting applications and specifications for Magnetic Motor Starters, Relays, and AC inverters. The engineer will support the engineering department throughout all phases of product development, which includes creating product designs, production drawings, schematics, bills of materials, and programming. The position requires a strong understanding of electrical codes and Konecranes standards to ensure compliance and efficiency in design and implementation. In this role, the engineer will calculate wire sizes and overload protection for various crane models, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary specifications and safety standards. The engineer will also participate in resolving manufacturing problems by collaborating with other engineers and service technicians, conducting research, and preparing solutions. Additionally, the engineer will prepare single line diagrams, panel layouts, and interconnect drawings based on customer specifications and Konecranes standards. The position also involves sizing and specifying purchased components and BOMs, providing input for design improvements, and modifying existing circuit designs as needed. The engineer will design electrical controls for motors and drives, develop connection and cable diagrams, and may be required to travel to sites for meetings or troubleshooting major control system issues. This role is crucial for ensuring that Konecranes continues to deliver high-quality lifting equipment and services to its customers.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate wire sizes and overload protection for crane models up to 800 volts D.C. and 4160 volts A.C.
  • Participate in resolving manufacturing problems by collaborating with engineers and service technicians.
  • Prepare single line diagrams, panel layouts, and interconnect drawings based on customer specifications.
  • Size and specify purchased components and BOMs by reviewing Konecranes standards and vendor information.
  • Provide input for design improvements to the chief engineer.
  • Modify and improve existing circuit designs due to field problems or material obsolescence.
  • Design electrical controls for motors and drives, ensuring compliance with electrical codes and Konecranes standards.
  • Develop connection and cable diagrams, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Travel to sites for meetings or troubleshooting control systems as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET).
  • 3 to 5 years of electrical engineering or drafting experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD 2016 or Zuken E3.
  • PLC and HMI programming experience, with a preference for Rockwell, Siemens, or Danfoss PLC/VFD programming.
  • Knowledge of NEC electrical code.
