About the position

The Electrical Engineer - Designer will support AECOM's Buildings + Places teams in San Diego, CA, focusing on electrical engineering from conceptual design through construction administration. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to tackle complex challenges across various markets, including commercial, federal, healthcare, and more. The position emphasizes innovative solutions in energy conservation and sustainability, contributing to decarbonization and electrification efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical engineering support from conceptual design through construction administration and post-occupancy.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines as the electrical designer to ensure an integrated approach to electrical systems, functionality, and safety.
  • Review shop drawings during the construction administration phase.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
  • Write reports for internal and external purposes based on findings.
  • Collaborate with managers and other employees to achieve the company's mission.
  • Ensure discipline plans meet overall project team requirements for scope and schedule.
  • Stay current on codes and technologies relevant to electrical disciplines.
  • Conduct site visits for data collection and evaluation of electrical systems and materials.
  • Develop designs within a BIM design environment.
  • Complete engineering and design tasks according to client specifications and applicable codes.
  • Develop alternate technical solutions and design options to support the project team.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the full design team and client.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance Procedures.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or similar field.
  • 2+ years of related experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD based design projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6+ years of electrical engineering experience within a consulting or design-build firm.
  • Professional Engineering (Electrical) license.
  • EIT certification.
  • Competent in conventional aspects of electrical engineering with judgment in evaluation and selection of techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills: articulate, assertive, and confident.
  • Creative thinker with effective teamwork skills.
  • Experience with sustainable design.
