About the position

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. The role involves integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Responsibilities will include completing calculations and analyses, developing design details, preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates, selecting equipment, writing proposals and reports, and communicating with clients. Project work will include the design of power and controls for power plants, refineries, mine processing facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities. Work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments, requiring flexibility and adaptability to meet project demands and client needs. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power or control systems, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word is essential, as well as strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative is crucial. A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and client needs are also important. Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record, as well as legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Work with multidisciplinary project teams to provide electrical engineering expertise.
  • Integrate process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems.
  • Complete calculations and analyses for electrical systems.
  • Develop design details and prepare drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates.
  • Select appropriate equipment for projects.
  • Write proposals and reports for clients.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding project requirements and updates.
  • Design power and control systems for power plants, refineries, and heavy industrial facilities.
  • Participate in short-term, out-of-town assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with coursework focused on power or control systems.
  • 2 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy environment.
  • Flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a design capacity on projects related to power and control systems.
  • GPA of 3.2/4.0 or higher.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
  • Experience with automation systems such as Rockwell Automation Logix platform, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk software.
  • Power distribution design experience.
  • Experience modeling power distribution systems using SKM and/or ETAP.
  • Proven project or task management skills.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
