About the position

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include preparing designs, studies, and specifications for medium- to high-voltage facilities including substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, generation (renewable and other), and energy storage systems. Primary customers will be electric utilities, renewable energy developers, and large industrial customers. The ideal candidate must be self-directed and quality driven with enthusiasm for new challenges and a desire to learn. Typical tasks will include completing calculations and analyses; developing design details; preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates; selecting equipment; assisting with writing proposals and reports; and communicating with clients under the supervision of a registered professional engineer. The work will occasionally involve short-term travel, usually one week or less in duration.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs, studies, and specifications for medium- to high-voltage facilities.
  • Complete calculations and analyses related to electrical engineering projects.
  • Develop design details and prepare drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates.
  • Select appropriate equipment for projects.
  • Assist in writing proposals and reports for clients.
  • Communicate effectively with clients under the supervision of a registered professional engineer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with coursework focused on power or control systems.
  • 0 to 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy environment.
  • Flexible working style and willingness to modify schedules to meet deadlines.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a design capacity on related projects at a consulting engineering or utility organization.
  • Power distribution, substation, and/or transmission line design experience.
  • Understanding of protective relays and short-circuit, loadflow, arc flash, and coordination analysis.
  • Familiarity with power studies using software such as SKM or ETAP.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and proven project or task management skills.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified or ability to obtain within one year.
  • GPA of 3.0 or greater.
