About the position

The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. The role involves integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into electrical systems. Typical tasks will include completing calculations and analyses, developing design details, preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates, selecting equipment, writing proposals and reports, and communicating with clients. Project work will be related to power and controls for power plants, refineries, mining facilities, municipal water and wastewater facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments, requiring flexibility and adaptability to meet project demands. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power or control systems, and have 0 to 3 years of relevant experience. Strong computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word are essential. The candidate should demonstrate strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and have the ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative. A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs are also important. Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future, is required, along with possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Work with multidisciplinary project teams to provide electrical engineering expertise.
  • Integrate process, mechanical, and control requirements into electrical systems.
  • Complete calculations and analyses related to electrical systems.
  • Develop design details and prepare drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates.
  • Select appropriate equipment for projects.
  • Write proposals and reports for clients.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding project requirements and updates.
  • Participate in short-term, out-of-town assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with coursework focused on power or control systems.
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a design capacity on projects related to power and control systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes such as power plants, petroleum refining, and mining.
  • Power distribution design and maintenance experience.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and Schneider Electric PLC configuration and programming.
  • Experience with protective device coordination, short-circuit studies, and arc flash analyses using SKM and ETAP software.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to project assignments.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
  • GPA of 3.0 or greater.
