About the position

The Electrical Engineer will join a fast-paced Infection Prevention Technologies R&D team supporting the ongoing life cycle of sterilizers. This person will lead product improvement initiatives, cost reduction efforts, and resolution of electrical component availability due to obsolescence and/or availability. The Electrical Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional team members and external suppliers to identify and execute sustaining projects. This role requires applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to accomplish assigned engineering tasks, such as electro-mechanical component selection and analysis, and cable/harness design. Additionally, this person will assist Manufacturing and Service to resolve problems. The position is located in Mentor, Ohio, and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. New graduates will be considered for this role. The Electrical Engineer will assess the impact of changes to standards (including 60601-1, 61010-2-40, 60601-1-2, and 61326-1) on existing products, performing additional testing and design changes as necessary. They will conduct routine engineering investigations involving calculations and/or tests in support of current products, new designs, methods, materials, or process studies. This role also involves assisting with the design, development, testing, and reporting on engineering projects, as well as performing analyses and resolving issues using problem-solving techniques to develop new and innovative solutions for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Assess impact of changes to standards on existing products and perform additional testing and design changes as necessary.
  • Perform routine engineering investigations involving calculations and/or tests in support of current products, new designs, methods, materials, or process studies.
  • Assist with the design, development, testing, and reporting on engineering projects.
  • Perform analyses and resolve issues using problem-solving techniques to develop new and innovative solutions for customers.
  • Prepare design sketches and assist with developing design layouts and drawings for a variety of components, sub-assemblies, processes, or equipment in support of projects.
  • Interact with vendors, suppliers, and consultants to assure compliance with requirements and specifications.
  • Work as a collaborative team member in engineering projects.
  • Provide component/sub-assembly level oversight.
  • Evaluate and test for EMC and Safety compliance for medical device electronic equipment.
  • Evaluate and qualify alternate source electronic components and update designs as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot production and field issues.
  • Lead design-related quality improvement and cost reduction projects, including manufacturing implementation.
  • Participate in technical design reviews of products and design requirements documents.
  • Perform engineering analysis, including simulation and tolerance analysis to ensure product functionality.
  • Develop test protocols and reports to validate changes and ensure product reliability.
  • Work directly with contract manufacturers and STERIS sourcing to support production.
  • Manage interactions with vendors, suppliers, and consultants to assure engineering models and prototype parts comply with designs and specifications.
  • Generate and manage Engineering Change Requests/Notices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics
  • 2-5 years of experience
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Experience with lab test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, function generators, etc.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and capable of working across multiple assigned projects
