About the position

The Electrical Engineer (High Voltage) position at AECOM involves supporting the Transmission and Distribution group within the Energy practice Engineering Center of Excellence. The role focuses on providing electrical engineering services across various sectors, including power distribution, renewables, and next-generation energy solutions. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior staff, contributing to the design and analysis of high and medium voltage systems, while also promoting AECOM's services to new clients and maintaining existing relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Support electrical engineering design work on assigned projects under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Assist in the development of power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, and arc flash analysis.
  • Create one-line and three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and panel layouts.
  • Conduct arc-flash hazard calculations to determine boundaries and required PPE.
  • Develop equipment layouts, connection diagrams, and bill of materials.
  • Prepare cable schedules and DC power distribution designs.
  • Develop construction and equipment specifications and plan drawings such as grounding and raceway plans.
  • Compile electrical lists including cable and conduit schedules, load lists, and equipment lists.
  • Perform calculations for grounding analysis, cable sizing, conduit sizing, and transformer sizing.
  • Support projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning, including field walkdowns and data gathering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 2 years of relevant high or medium voltage transmission, distribution, and/or substation experience.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification or ability to obtain FE certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, etc.).
  • Exposure to California Electric Utilities.
  • Experience with retrofit or brownfield projects.
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Field experience in power systems analysis software (SKM, EasyPower, Etap).
  • Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects.
  • Success in working with remote teams.
