About the position

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer I to assume a key role within the Communication Products Hardware Engineering Department in Mission Systems. This Engineer will be involved in the design and development of digital hardware used in high-performance communication products that are critical to the defense of our nation, such as sophisticated software-defined radios and data links designed for use in various ground, airborne, and space applications. This position is onsite, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In this role, you will perform circuit card design lifecycle activities including requirements capture, schematic capture, design documentation, signal integrity analysis, creation of board stackup and routing instructions, coordination and review of printed wiring board layout, creation of test plans, root cause analysis, and integration. You will design, document, verify, support, test, and troubleshoot digital hardware for communication products using electrical engineering principles and techniques. Designs may include the use of FPGA, processors, and DDR memory components, and industry interfaces, such as Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and UART. Collaboration with a multi-discipline team of Engineers will be essential to develop proven hardware designs that meet system performance and operational specifications. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn a variety of skills and concepts in designing circuit cards, including component selection, schematic design, PCB layout, simulation and testing, troubleshooting, and debugging. Responsibilities

  • Perform circuit card design lifecycle activities including requirements capture, schematic capture, design documentation, signal integrity analysis, creation of board stackup and routing instructions, coordination and review of printed wiring board layout, creation of test plans, root cause analysis, and integration.
  • Design, document, verify, support, test, and troubleshoot digital hardware for communication products using electrical engineering principles and techniques.
  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline team of Engineers to develop proven hardware designs that meet system performance and operational specifications.
  • Help deliver quality next-generation hardware products to customers that meet the needs of an ever-evolving environment.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree and 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Foundational understanding of electrical circuit design concepts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with schematic capture of electrical circuit designs, including familiarity with a schematic capture tool (examples may include Siemens/Mentor Graphics Xpedition, Altium, Cadence Allegro, EAGLE, KiCAD, Multisim, etc.) for creation of circuit card designs.
  • Experience with electrical circuits that contain digital electronics such as processors, FPGAs, CPLDs, and/or Microcontrollers.
  • Experience with generating Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout constraint guidelines and overseeing the routing, layout, fabrication, and assembly of the design.
  • Familiarity with Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Test Equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, etc.
