About the position

As a Power Grid Automation Engineer I, you will be responsible for programming and integrating switchgear automation solutions, providing both testing and customer support. This role involves preparing proposals, applying product knowledge in distribution automation, and offering technical support to various stakeholders. You will also design logic, program relays, and assist in customer training and installations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare GW switchgear automation solution proposals including functional descriptions and pricing.
  • Apply product knowledge of relays, programming, and communication in switchgear distribution automation applications.
  • Provide pre and post sales technical support to sales/marketing, production engineering, and customers for customized distribution automation solutions.
  • Design logic, program relays and controllers, and test systems as required for projects.
  • Develop flexible program templates and software solutions that can be combined with hardware for customizable product packages.
  • Assist Production Engineering with minor modifications as necessary for specific customer applications.
  • Train and assist customers with installations and commissioning including on-site activities as necessary.
  • Function in cross-functional work teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with peers and internal and external customers.
  • Strong industrial/utility programming understanding and skills with a strong preference for relay programming.
  • Training and/or experience in relays and switchgear and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of MS Windows, Word, Spreadsheet and project applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-3 years of progressive experience in Engineering design and/or development is preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of three-phase power systems including symmetrical components, load flow, and overcurrent protection functions.
  • Relay integration and logic programming for SEL, Basler, and GE relays.
  • Understanding of communication standards, fiber optic cable selection, radio communication, and cellular communication.
  • Familiarity with typical primary voltage and current test procedures, and electromagnetics related to motors, transformers, and generators.
