About the position

The Electrical Engineer I (Power Systems) at Dakota Electric Association is responsible for maintaining and improving the safety, reliability, and overall economics of the electrical distribution system. This role involves project management, technical analysis, and leadership in assigned technical areas, directly impacting the safety of employees and the public, as well as the reliability of the electrical system and the management of a significant construction budget.

Responsibilities

  • Provides project management for engineering studies, system construction projects, and member-owned generation interconnection.
  • Identifies and recommends changes to system equipment, control, and operation of the distribution system.
  • Periodically reviews the distribution system to ensure field equipment is not overloaded or overstressed.
  • Explores, investigates, and directs new technologies, managing advanced distribution management systems.
  • Manages the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and reviews SCADA screens.
  • Recommends and implements standards and templates for new equipment or updates to existing equipment.
  • Creates and maintains Dakota Electric construction standards to ensure compliance with national and local standards.
  • Creates or maintains specifications for purchasing construction materials for the distribution system.
  • Provides technical review of quotes and assists with material bids.
  • Creates methods to monitor abnormal material failures and directs analysis to determine causes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BEE) degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years' work experience as an Electrical Engineer.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam.
