About the position

As an Electrical Engineer I, you will play a crucial role in supporting the engineering, operations, and maintenance teams by providing technical assistance for the plants' electrical and instrumentation systems. This position involves creating and developing designs by analyzing technical problems, field checking, specifying applicable equipment, and developing cost and scheduling estimates. You will ensure design safety by incorporating applicable codes and standards and sound engineering design practices. You will report to the Maintenance Superintendent and collaborate with a diverse team that includes Reliability Engineers, Instrumentation & Controls Engineers, DCS Specialists, and Instrumentation & Electrical Technicians. This role is safety-sensitive and requires you to work onsite, where you will be responsible for providing daily maintenance assistance to I&E technicians and operations, solving plant-related issues promptly, and supporting preventive and predictive maintenance programs for ongoing reliability. In addition to maintenance support, you will develop electrical and instrumentation designs for assigned projects, oversee work by external engineering firms or in-house teams, and create capital and expense budgets for electrical system reliability projects. You will also manage the Management of Change (MOC) process for documenting instrumentation and electrical changes and coordinate documentation updates with the engineering department. Your role will also involve assisting with project start-up and troubleshooting, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule compliance for on-site contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily maintenance assistance to I&E technicians and operations.
  • Solve plant-related issues promptly.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs for ongoing reliability.
  • Develop electrical and instrumentation designs for assigned projects.
  • Oversee work by external engineering firms or in-house teams.
  • Create capital and expense budgets for electrical system reliability projects.
  • Prepare project authorization documentation.
  • Manage the MOC process for documenting instrumentation and electrical changes.
  • Coordinate documentation updates with the engineering department.
  • Assist with project start-up and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and schedule compliance for on-site contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 5 years related experience.
  • Experience in a chemical processing environment and Management of Change.
  • Previous experience in a technical role with vast expertise in instrumentation and electrical system reliability, troubleshooting and design.
  • Working knowledge of medium voltage (5-15kV) and low voltage electrical equipment, including switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, motors, etc.
  • Working knowledge of process instrumentation, valves, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes & standards, including NFPA, API, IEEE, NEMA, UL, ANSI, etc.
