About the position

The Electrical Engineer I performs design engineering activities requiring a basic understanding of drawings, calculations, specifications, and industry standards and practices covering the assigned work. This role supports relay protection and control engineering, including detailed design for substation projects of varying size, complexity, and voltage class.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and developing engineering deliverables for substation projects, including one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams, relay settings and calculations, control and relaying panel layouts, specifications, and wiring diagrams, SCADA system and communications interfaces (RTUs, HMIs, IEDs), auxiliary system design (batteries, chargers, AC/DC load centers, conduit/cable sizing, UPS, backup generators), commissioning and functional testing specifications, and bill of materials preparation.
  • Apply basic engineering principles in one or more areas, including substation design & protective relaying, transmission & distribution engineering, substation automation & power systems analysis, and civil, communications, computer, and mechanical engineering (as applicable).
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, cost estimates, specifications, evaluations, and requisitions.
  • Develop familiarity with company standards, QA/QC processes, safety protocols, and document control systems.
  • Ensure complete and accurate record-keeping and uphold the quality of all work performed.
  • Support field work as needed, including potential travel to project sites.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
  • 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience in power systems, substations, or related fields.
  • Basic knowledge of relay protection and control systems, substation design, and power system analysis.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NESC, IEEE, and ANSI.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits, as needed.
