About the position

We are seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer for our Greenwood Village, CO or Chamblee, GA office, supporting our Life Science (LS) business unit. This business unit specializes in the design of facilities and related power systems for government and private clients. The work assignments will include electrical systems design for buildings such as biocontainment labs, research labs, and other scientific research facilities. An agreed-upon hybrid schedule, allowing employees to work from both home and the office, is available for those in good standing. The role involves supporting senior electrical engineers and fellow team members in the design of critical facility electrical systems. Project work encompasses a variety of activities including power analysis and studies, conceptual and detailed design of low voltage (1000V and lower) power distribution, medium voltage (1000V to 45kV) power distribution, power generation systems (both backup and prime power), grounding and lightning protection systems, lighting systems, and motor control systems. Additionally, the role includes facility voice/data communication cabling systems, fire alarm, security access control, and security systems. The position will also require developing specifications, conducting field investigations, and managing construction administration. Designing to electrical regulatory codes is a key aspect of this position, and experience with reading and researching electrical codes is desired. Excellent communication skills are essential, as the role requires constant interaction with senior engineers, peers, team members from other engineering disciplines, architects, and contractors. The applicant should be capable of independent design and engineering judgment, with some collaboration and instruction from senior engineers. Occasional travel to job sites will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support senior electrical engineers in the design of critical facility electrical systems.
  • Conduct power analysis and studies for various projects.
  • Design low voltage and medium voltage power distribution systems.
  • Develop specifications for electrical systems and components.
  • Perform field investigations and manage construction administration tasks.
  • Ensure designs comply with electrical regulatory codes and standards.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, architects, and contractors.
  • Utilize electrical calculation tools and software for design purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 0 to 4 years of experience in Electrical Engineering design, preferably with entities such as DHS, USDA, CDC, NIH, etc.
  • Experience using electrical calculation tools, including lighting and power software such as AGi32, Elum Tools, EasyPower, ETAP, or SKM Power Tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for client projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • EIT (Engineer in Training) certification or the ability to take and pass the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) Exam.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for drawing generation.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA, IBC, ICC, NEC, and IEEE Regulatory Codes.
  • Facilities electrical design experience.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
