About the position

The Electrical Engineer II - Avionics Hardware position at Blue Origin involves developing and executing validation and verification strategies for avionics hardware used in space missions. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliability and safety of avionics systems in harsh space environments, contributing to the company's vision of enabling millions of people to live and work in space. The position requires collaboration with a diverse team and a commitment to safety and innovation in space exploration.

Responsibilities

  • Basic circuit design and analysis
  • PCB layout and assembly
  • Electronics lab prototyping
  • Cross-discipline interface to ensure space-ready avionics designs
  • Participation in development of electronics test plans and reports as needed
  • Travel (10-20%) to assist with external testing of simple circuits

Requirements

  • B.S. (or advanced degree) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Nuclear Science, or related field with 2+ years of experience in electronics design, analysis, and/or testing
  • Experience with benchtop testing/debugging circuit boards
  • Familiarity with simple PCB layout (Altium PCB design tools or similar)
  • Basic circuit analysis skills
  • Understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, basic digital and analog circuit fundamentals, and familiarity with associated laboratory equipment
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic experience with Python and/or NI LabView programming and embedded software
  • Experience with test automation
  • Basic electronics lab skills including soldering, harnessing, use of oscilloscope, multimeter, and logic analyzer
  • Familiarity with basic and complex discrete and integrated circuits (transistors, logic, memories, microcontrollers, FPGAs, etc.)
  • Experience with the use of commercial or automotive parts in the space radiation environment
