About the position

The Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division of PNNL is focused on advancing the transition to a decarbonized and efficient energy system through innovative research and applied science. This role involves the design, development, and testing of electrical and electronic systems, contributing to the optimization and control of energy resources and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical/electronic systems, components, equipment, and networks.
  • Adapts and applies control theory to design electrical/electronic systems with desired behaviors.
  • Designs, develops, installs, and supervises all aspects of control systems and processes.
  • Determines design approaches and parameters.
  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests, and evaluates results.
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
  • Researches, develops, and applies tools, simulations, and models of electric power systems and components.
  • Designs and develops new techniques and methodologies for control and integration of diverse energy resources and points of consumption.
  • Develops and applies system architectures, models, and technologies for secure and reliable electric power systems.

Requirements

  • BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA -OR- PhD
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Experience with power system modeling tools such as PowerWorld, PSSE, OPAL-RT, EMTP.
  • Familiar with the use of laboratory instrumentation (oscilloscopes, signal generators, amplifiers, etc.)
  • Familiar with programming power system protection and control equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated potential to successfully support Laboratory-based R&D projects by providing high quality technical deliverables.
  • Capability and willingness to learn NDE data acquisition/analysis/modeling software.
