This role is a part of Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space! As part of a diverse Avionics team, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver Avionics hardware systems. You will design, develop, and verify high-performance avionics hardware for various flight vehicles. You will be integrated with our rocket program and technical leads to drive requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, test, and production release of on-vehicle launch, flight, and power management components and sub-systems. Your responsibilities will encompass electronic requirements, architecture concepts, detailed design, development, and test. In addition, you will follow avionics designs through formal verification, environmental qualification, release, and participate in flight support activities. Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver Avionics hardware systems.
  • Design, develop, and verify high-performance avionics hardware for various flight vehicles.
  • Drive requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, test, and production release of on-vehicle launch, flight, and power management components and sub-systems.
  • Follow avionics designs through formal verification, environmental qualification, and release.
  • Participate in flight support activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in the design of complex hardware.
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the design, verification, qualification, and production phases of the electronic product lifecycle.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related subject areas.
  • 8+ years of proven experience in design, development, integration, test, and operation of Avionics systems or vehicles.
  • Proven experience specifying and crafting high reliability safety-critical electronics; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610, DO-254 and similar standards.
  • Background with launch vehicle hardware development, integration, and test.
  • Experience developing embedded software or firmware for 32-bit microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs.
  • Proficiency with scripted and/or compiled languages such as Python and C/C++.
