About the position

The Electrical Engineer III position at Dennis Group involves designing and managing electrical systems for building power in food and beverage production facilities. The role requires technical expertise in electrical engineering, including power distribution, lighting design, and fire alarm systems, while also overseeing project assignments and collaborating with clients and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Designing electrical systems for building power, including normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems.
  • Executing duties on larger projects independently.
  • Serving as the client contact and lead engineer.
  • Documenting necessary calculations for design, such as short circuit and load calculations.
  • Maintaining project document organization.
  • Managing time and meeting commitments.
  • Understanding Ohm's Law, AC/DC, and electric and magnetic fields.
  • Applying power system theory, including 3-phase vector math and power factor.
  • Designing lighting for food processing spaces and coordinating fixture placement with other trades.
  • Designing fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building codes.
  • Specifying means and methods for electrical work.
  • Producing bid documents consisting of layout drawings and specifications.
  • Procuring long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment.
  • Performing short circuit calculations and identifying deficiencies.
  • Assisting in managing the electrical bid process for clients and observing construction.
  • Participating in project planning and feasibility studies.
  • Supporting department-wide standard development and maintenance.
  • Researching electrical building/power materials and best practices.
  • Coaching and mentoring subordinate team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related 4-year degree.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical systems for building power.
  • 8+ years of work experience in designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials.
  • 8+ years of work experience in AutoCAD, Revit, or other related design programs.
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing or construction setting preferred.
  • FE or PE tracked desirable.
