About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a key member of the Medical Device Solution team, responsible for leading and supporting all phases of product design for medical products and systems. This role involves conceptualization, feasibility assessment, testing, and documentation, ensuring compliance with quality systems and design controls.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or support brainstorming activities to investigate unusual design challenges.
  • Support the development of product design requirements and system architecture.
  • Develop analog and digital circuit designs for systems and/or subsystems based upon requirements.
  • Lead engineering efforts to fabricate, test, debug, and implement electrical hardware and/or firmware designs.
  • Contribute to project planning and engineering resource management.
  • Complete projects/tasks within budget and on schedule while generating appropriate design documentation.
  • Follow Battelle's ISO 13485 quality system processes and procedures.
  • Lead project teams, mentor junior team members and interns.
  • Lead or support development of client proposals.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline AND 6+ years of relevant experience; M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline AND 4+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Background in product development process, operating under Quality System and Design Controls.
  • US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • Experience with analog, digital, and electro-mechanical circuits and components.
  • Experience with development and testing of embedded systems and power supply circuits.
  • Experience with the integration of hardware and software/firmware systems.
  • Experience with developing, testing, and modeling of electromagnetic and/or RF circuits.
  • Working knowledge of the product design process, electronic manufacturing processes and design documentation requirements.
  • Experience in schematic capture (i.e., Altium), circuit board layout, and design-for-manufacturing process.
  • Experience using structured methodologies and analysis techniques such as circuit simulation (i.e., SPICE), FMEA, tolerance analysis, experimental design, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting and fault isolation techniques.
  • Experience with applying safety standards requirements (IEC, UL, TUV) to the product design process.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in medical products operating under a registered QS and under FDA Design Controls.
  • Experience in medical device design and testing for regulatory/compliance (i.e. IEC 60601).
  • Experience with communications standards and protocols including NFC, USB, I2C, SPI, Bluetooth, and/or Wi-Fi.
  • Working knowledge of advanced circuit materials and miniaturization techniques.
  • Working knowledge and experience in risk analyses (i.e., ISO 14971).
